Stronger miles:

 

Starting at 7pm on the 21st January 2026 for 6 weeks! 

 

This is a one hour weekly strength class designed for runners, held at Unity Gym every Wednesday at 7pm coached by Emily Donaldson. This will be small group, friendly, with likeminded individuals. This class is open to all abilities and I will adapt all movements to suit your ability or work around injury. Injury is no reason to stop moving and it is likely that strength training will only help!

 

Why sign up?

 

Strength training for runners can help reduce injury risk, improve power output and maximal speed, and improve overall running economy and movement efficiency. If these are areas you wish to improve on, this class is a great place to start!

 

Finer details:

 

The cost to sign up is £50 for a 6 week block. As part of this, you will also receive a further written session to complete on your own each week. If you do not have access to a gym, a home friendly version will also be included which demands limited equipment. This is delivered via an app called FITR which allows you to give written feedback on the session or ask questions. I will review any comments, queries or video reviews and provide feedback where needed. 

 

Why a 6 week commitment?

 

Although this class will continue every week for the foreseeable, each “block” will consist of 6 weeks, meaning 6 weeks of progressive work so you build coordination, familiarity and ultimately, strength with the movements, and also see the same faces in your classes. 

 

Like any sport, to see the most success we need consistency. Therefore we ask for a 6 week commitment to ensure you are getting the most out of the sessions and ultimately getting what you pay for. 

 

Once 6 weeks elapses, a new sign up opportunity will occur and the next 6 weeks will work with different but progressive variations of exercises and rep schemes. 

 

A bit about me:

 

My name is Emily and I have been teaching and training mainly in the world of CrossFit for 9 years. My sole work was as a CrossFit coach and personal trainer for around 4 years, specialising in Olympic Weightlifting and Strength and Conditioning. I now work at Unity Gym part time coaching general classes and I run the introduction to CrossFit course, teaching people who are brand new to the world of strength training. 

 

I have recently got into long distance running and notice how brutal this can be on muscles and joints. This caused me to consider what strength and pre-habilitation I should be doing in the gym to support my running escapades. After a few consistent weeks I noticed a great difference in how it felt to run and how much quicker recovery was post-run. 

 

After talking with running friends I realised that many runners are unsure what else they should be doing in the gym to support their sport. This is how Stronger Miles came to be.
